Combination of Theory and Practical work
Here at the Secret Salon Academy, we fully understand that ‘studying’ doesn’t mean the same to everyone. That’s why our 1-day course has been created to appeal to a range of different learning methods. Alongside our in-depth theory work, we also offer a fun practical session so you can polish your new skills. Don’t worry if some of the information goes over your head – we appreciate that it can be challenging to retain all of your newly acquired knowledge, which is why we send you home with plenty of reading material.
The value of your course will continue as we supply training manuals for you to dip into for reference or to continue your studies in the weeks, months and years to come. We also offer ongoing support in the form of our friendly WhatsApp group, where you’ll gain access to our London hair extension training course tutors, as well as fellow course attendees.
If you would like a little more hands-on experience, then we also offer each of our students the opportunity to practise their skills through work experience at our salon HQ as required.

Yes, absolutely. You can book a place on our hair extensions training course London venue if you are:
- A complete beginner with no experience
- Hoping to start a side hustle to gain extra income
- A stylist launching their own business
- An industry professional wishing to expand their skillset
- Anyone wanting to perfect their own application of hair extensions
The cost of hair extensions can range between £175 – £550 depending on which look you’re trying to achieve, the method used, and the amount or length of hair you decide to have. Our hair experts can guide you on the best method to suit your lifestyle.
- Tape – This method is flat to the scalp and very discreet. It is a great way to add length and weight to your hair. Tape hair extensions can last up to nine months if cared for properly. We recommend re-fitting every 6-8 weeks to prevent damage being caused.
- Weave – A weave hair extension is fitted using silicone lined micro beads to grip onto your own hair. The weft is sewn onto micro beads, and can be fitted on clips or a micro beads for a more permanent solution. We recommend re-fitting every 6-8 weeks to prevent damage, and these extensions can last up to nine months.
- Nano bead – Nano beads are 90% smaller than micro beads and are great for adding colour such as balayage without colouring your own hair. Individual strands are fitted throughout your hair so the weight is distributed evenly. We recommend re-fitting every 6-8 weeks to prevent damage, and these extensions can last up to nine months.
L-Tip extensions are fitted strand-by-strand, by hand – meaning heat and glue aren’t required. A looping tool is used to thread each L-tip and a strand of the client’s hair. Re-application of L-Tips are required every six to nine weeks, and they can last for up to 12 months if cared for correctly.
Once certified as a hair extension technician, you can earn between £250 to £1000 per week. You can either do this working from home, or by running a mobile hair extension business.
A hair extension business can be a great investment that you can fit around your other commitments. You can control the hours you work, and effectively, how much you earn. The more clients you take on, the more you will earn.
You don’t need to be a hairdresser or have any experience in the trade to qualify in hair extensions. All you need to do is complete a certified hair extension program such as our Hair Extension training course at the Secret Salon Academy.
A lot of work is put into creating hair extensions, hence why some people may consider them pricey. We are also paying for the convenience of being able to change our hair’s look and style quickly. The material that your hair extensions are made from will also impact on the price.
Bonded hair extensions will last the longest, because they are bonded to strands of your hair. These extensions can stay in place for 3-6 months if cared for correctly, depending on how fast your hair grows.
Fusion type hair extensions such as micro ring or L-Tip offer the most natural appearance. A clamping or heat bonding process is used to attach the hair extension directly to your natural hair in segments called strands.
Yes, some types of hair extensions are attached strand by strand with small attachments and can take hours to fit. Permanent hair extensions cost more than temporary hair extensions due to the labour time they take to be fitted.
Micro rings and micro bonds are types of permanent hair extensions that are designed to be worn continuously for many months.
Tape Extensions are a good choice for people with fine hair. They have a flat bond that offers a natural look that is easily blended in with thin hair. Wefts are sandwiched between the natural hair and are secured in place with polyurethane tape, and secured close to the root.
Hair extensions have come a long way from when they were first invented in Cleopatra’s era. These days, there are so many types, colours, textures and lengths to choose from, it can get overwhelming. Generally speaking, hair extensions in the UK are graded for their quality from A to D. Poor quality hair is not worth the money, so it’s worth spending a bit more to get a natural look and feel.
Before getting hair extensions, there are a few things to consider. Hair extensions can be noticeable if not fitted correctly or matched to your hair colour by a qualified hair dresser.
Leaving your hair extensions in for too long or pulling them can damage your natural hair. We can show you how to care for your hair extensions by using the correct shampoos, and provide styling advice to protect your natural hair.
To protect your natural hair and extend the life of your hair extensions, you need to care for them properly. After we fit your hair extensions, we’ll give you all the after care and maintenance advice that you will need to ensure you keep your extensions looking as good as when you stepped out of our salon.
Hair extensions may cause some discomfort within the first few weeks while they settle. This should not cause pain, and will go away once your scalp has got used to the extra weight. Another cause of pain from hair extensions could be that they were incorrectly fitted, where the extensions don’t lay flat against the scalp, resulting in tension on the roots.
